“I ignore Pieds-Noirs attempt to claim their belongings in Algeria,” says ambassador

French Ambassador to Algeria Xavier Driencourt Wednesday said he has no idea about an attempt by the Pieds-Noirs to recover their properties in Algeria. “The Pieds-Noirs come back to Algeria because of nostalgia especially that they receive a wonderful welcome.”

  “Those relations are like the French stockmarket with its ups and downs. French universities count about 15,000 and they grant 2,000 scholarships per year,” he added.

   

  He stressed the necessity of overcoming the conflicts of the past between Algeria and France. “A meeting is expected to be held soon in Algeria between Algerian and French war veterans. It is a result of coordination made by French and Algerian associations.”

   

  Speaking about the African Sahel, Driencourt said Algeria and France share the same interests about the issue. “Algeria knows about the problems of the region and terrorism.”
